2.29pm Monday 9th of June

It’s funny that I still often think of a conversation between two people, once re-told to me where one considered themselves a “reader” although they hadn’t read a book in a few years.

What makes a “reader” ?
How to feel comfortable to call oneself a reader?

9.53am Wednesday 11th of June

This year, I have been more or less dedicating my focus to two things:

#1 working with what I’ve got

#2 always be learning

I’ve found these interrelated into my making, my writing, and more casual everyday living too. I think both also work well under the umbrella of Practice and Process.

Two words I like a lot.

I started a new book last night which I’m really enjoying, so much so that I read 60 pages in one sitting. Captivated. I woke up earlier than expected this morning and thought - if I can get all my rituals done in time before yoga, maybe I can read a few more pages - I sat up and noticed the book was still beside me on the bed.

Maybe tonight it’ll be tucked in!

Three separate friends have recommended books they thought I’d like last week. I got the details and started a fresh list on cardboard, then went to the bookstore to treat myself to one I can’t borrow.

The first book I was told of was a journal, recommended the morning after I’d seen Helen Garner in conversation for The Season. Her new book. My friend and I decided we’d trade diaries; Helen for Anne Truitt when we catch up again.

The next book was offered by Zoe. She knows me well, basically tailoring my taste over the years. Introducing me to Bluets, Monkey Grip, and Alphabetical Diaries among countless others.
